What an exciting day in our classroom! Today, our students harvested the first hydroponic lettuce crop of the school year. After watching the plants grow and develop under our classroom grow lights, students finally got the chance to carefully remove the lettuce, examine the impressive root systems, and prepare their harvest to take home.
This has been such a fun, hands-on way for students to experience science in action. They have been able to observe plant growth, roots, water, nutrients, and the needs of living things firsthand rather than simply reading about them in a book. The smiles in these pictures say it all!
Students were able to take home some of our classroom-grown lettuce to share with their family. We are already looking forward to starting our next crop and continuing to learn through our hydroponic garden.
Reminder: Next week is Fall Break, October 5–9, and there will be no school. We hope all of our students enjoy a relaxing, safe, and well-deserved break. We look forward to seeing everyone back after Fall Break!
