Frequently Asked Questions During COVID-19

Q: Are school staff required to stay at home during school closures?

  • All staff should have received communication from their supervisor. Staff are expected to work on site or remotely. Please contact your supervisor with any questions.

Q: What are we doing to ensure kids can access meals during school closures?

  • Breakfast and lunch will be available to be served to all children under the age of 18 at all of our sites during the school closure.
  • Sites will be open from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM for meal pick up.
  • Also, meals will be provided at bus stops. Please visit the Isaac School District website at IsaacSchools.org for times and locations.

Q: How does this closure affect AZMERIT2, the statewide assessment?

  • The Arizona Department of Education has confirmed that we will not assessing students with AZMERIT2 in 2019-2020.

Q: Are teachers required to be available during the school day?

  • Teachers are expected to work their typical, scheduled work day remotely. Employees shall commit to being available during their work day. This means that employees are ready, willing, and able to perform assigned tasks.

Q: What if a teacher is not available during the day?

  • A teacher who is not available during the work day is expected to enter their absence in Absence Management. If an employee shares that their absence has something to do with COVID 19, direct that staff member to Howard Paley in Human Resources.

Q: What if a teacher is not in attendance at an online meeting/professional development meeting and has not entered their absence?

  • The administrator/director will reach out to the staff member and have a brief discussion. If an employee shares that, their absence has something to do with COVID 19, direct that staff member to Howard Paley in Human Resources.
  • For all other absences, staff members will follow district procedures.

Q: What if a classified staff member is not available during the day?

Q: When will we return to school?

  • Arizona schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

 

Q: Will teachers need to go back and complete an end-of-year checkout? 

  • Yes, teachers will have an end-of-year checklist. We ask that our staff to be patient as we develop this process. More information will come about the process and procedures for checkout.

Q: What about teachers that are not returning?

  • Teachers who are not returning will be required to check out and have an opportunity to obtain any personal belongings from their classrooms. More information will come about the process and procedures for checkout. 

Q: What will be the process of open enrollment, how will it look?

  • We are currently working with Valley Schools to restructure the Open Enrollment process. Please keep an eye out in Isaac Updates and your email to look for information on the open enrollment process.

Q: Is there going to be summer school? (Yes, not sure what it will look like)

  • At this time, we are continuing to plan for summer school.

Q: A few paraprofessionals are concerned about not receiving information because of a lack of technology at home. (If it is important, it has also been on a robocall) How is this being addressed?

  • Information has been provided electronically via email, robocalls, and posted on social media. We ask all staff members to utilize one of these three forms of communication to gain information. They may also reach out to their supervisor directly.

Q: How will paraprofessionals know if they have a job next year as their letters of intent were not issued due to the closure?

  • Paraprofessionals were offered Letters of Agreement on February 21, 2020. Letters of Agreement are still open and Paraprofessionals may still accept in Visions.

Q: Some schools want to do school parades (this was before the stay at home directive).  They wanted to know if this would be ok?

  • At this time, we will honor the Governor’s stay at home orders. All school parades are cancelled. 

Q: 2nd observation - (3rd year teachers want to get clarification on whether or not they will have to do two next year or if the one will be ok?)  What is the message for teachers that haven’t had another observation? What about teachers that are on an improvement plan this year?

Q: How will school closures affect 301 Pay for Performance?

Q: How do we get our students motivated when they know that they are just going to pass anyway?

  • Isaac Teachers build relationships with students. It is times like these we must leverage those relationships to inspire hard work. Growth Mindset. We also know, there will be some students that are very difficult to inspire at this time. Please remember that they are experiencing this pandemic in a way that we as educators have never dealt with before.
