Meet the Principal
Mr. Gerard Hernandez has been involved in the field of education for over twenty-one years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from San Beda College, Philippines. His post-baccalaureate education continued at Grand Canyon University obtaining a Masters in Elementary Education. Mr. Hernandez received his Principal Certification through the University of Phoenix.
For many years, Mr. Hernandez taught at various grade levels at Garfield Elementary School and later joined Phoenix Elementary School District as Educational Technology Specialist. He also has 11 years of successful administrative experience as assistant principal at Morris K. Udall Elementary School, Joseph Zito Elementary School, and Pueblo del Sol Middle School. Under Mr. Hernandez leadership as principal at Joseph Zito Elementary, the school was awarded the bronze and silver distinction from the “Beat the Odds” institute in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
During his tenure as teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal, Mr. Hernandez has worked diligently with multi-cultural, at-risk students in Phoenix. This has enabled him to gain insightful information and develop a deep admiration for the diversity that exist among students and their families. Mr Hernandez is driven by his personal educational philosophy of ‘Do more, Give more, Be more’.
