Congratulations to the entire Isaac School-Community for getting the 2005-06 academic year off to such a great start. Since the beginning of the school year, we have celebrated many positive accomplishments. The dedication and hard work of students, teachers and support staff in our district has been recognized as we endeavor to make Isaac School District a leader in providing Increased Student Achievement, Improved Customer Service and Integrated Parents and Community.
Our first "Isaac Initiative," to Increase Student Achievement has been a cause for celebration throughout the District as 11 of our schools have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2005 by demonstrating student success in reading, writing and math as compared to students across the United States. Meeting AYP standards is required by the Federal No Child Left Behind Act. In 2003, only five of our schools met this requirement.
At the state, level our students have also demonstrated higher levels of academic success. In 2003, Isaac had six schools with underperforming labels. Today, student achievement is on the rise. The Isaac District celebrates seven schools (Alston, Coe, Mitchell, Moya, Pueblo del Sol, Sutton, Udall), which have been designated .Performing Plus. schools by the Arizona Department of Education. A Performing Plus designation means that students have performed higher than expected levels in reading, writing and math as compared to state standards. I know we are all encouraged by these results.
With continued support and hard work, we are well on our way to becoming an excelling school district, which benefits each student and every member in our community.
Our second "Isaac Initiative," to Improve Customer Service has resulted in a magnificent partnership between the Colangelo family, the Boys and Girls Club and the Isaac School District. The hard work of students, teachers and support staff in our district has been noticed by these great partners. Parents and families have always been a focus in our community and after-school opportunities will only be complemented and expanded by bringing the Boys and Girls Club to our neighborhood.
Last month, we participated in a celebration along with Governor Napolitano, Jerry Colangelo, his son Bryan Colangelo (Phoenix Suns President and General Manager) and leaders from the Boys and Girls Club where they announced the construction of the "Jerry Colangelo Club: A Phoenix Haven" in the Isaac Community. This $3.6 million club will be funded by donations and constructed on the vacant land North of the District Office.
Our third "Isaac Initiative," to Integrate Parents and Community included
Raising $15,259.83 to assist Hurricane Katrina evacuees now living in Arizona as part of "Operation Good Neighbor." These funds were raised as part of "Isaac District Dress Down Day" where students and staff were invited to bring $1 and wear appropriate clothing of their choice in place of regular school uniforms.
In partnership with the Governor.s office we donated these funds to the Salvation Army and Red Cross for families who were transitioning from the Coliseum to their new residences. We were told this money was greatly appreciated and will go a long way toward helping the hurricane victims.
Thanks to everyone who participated in and our district-wide .Dress Down Day. and especially for those students, faculty, staff and administration who were able to donate
I hope you enjoy the Isaac website, which highlights the success of our staff, students, and their families regarding the Isaac Initiatives. Congratulations to the students, certified, classified, and administrative staff for growing a community of lifelong learners.
